Reborn from Decay : Rebati Bhavan is the Zamindar's mansion in Sutrapur , constructed on an acre of land by a hindu landlord 'Rebati Mohan Das' in the early 20th century. Currently the Fire service department has acquired this building for the families of their employees. Idle afternoon, it is an old building in a peaceful setting with only light and winds creating slow and rhythmic motions by the shadows of the railings and the hanging wet cloths left to dry. I try hard to be silent in my steps and not interrupt the flow of waves of the curtains on the open doors; where within mother with their children in arms are sleeping. The silence gets heavier with the loneliness of the house. Like lost souls a few people are camouflaged within the shadows here and there as if escaping the regular, mundane routine. The wind starts whispering the experience gained in time, visions get stuck to the strong roots, growing in the cracks. The newly painted white color on the wrinkled face of the building struggles hard to go with the mood. As the shadows starts to lengthen, the children starts to wake and stir. Within a moment the building starts to break and wake up from the old aged image. The sound of steps on the corridors become louder, as shadows start dancing with the motions. The porch gets crowded with the little marble players. One little girl stay indulged with the affection of her pet cat while another is busy enjoying climbing a tree session. In the corner of a corridor some children are trying hard to climb the cracks and rods to reach another balcony to steal pickles which someone have spread in the sun to dry. The rooftop is crowded by young boys flying colorful kites. Somehow this time it is not the old roots but the new leafs that has grown from the crack gets the attention to accompany the spirit of the children. A little girl runs amok persuaded by her mother with the evening meal- sometimes she stops and wonders at all the sounds of merriment. A group of white pigeon keeps flying in a circle, as if they are here to accompany the joy and liveliness that is suddenly on exhibit in this supposedly old derelict building. This is the story I heard and portrayed from the decaying Rebati bhaban. It is not a story of closure, but a story of rebirth through the youthful spirit of man. How to purchase our work?

Life in the storm [in progress] : Life in the storm The struggle of the will and body against the sea, fueled by the determination not to go hungry the next day. Step by each agonizing step, steadying the nets and ploughing through the waves as the sea recedes. This is the everyday life of the five thousand families on the coast in Kuakata who makes their living by catching wild post-larvae (PL) for the local prawn industry. The meager income they earn is below the US$ 2.5. But this is not their only concern. Hammered constantly by storms and devastated by two massive cyclones Sidr (2007) and Aila (2009) the coast has lost much of its natural resources. This set of pictures is my attempt to portray the relationship of these individuals with the net and how it is integral and divine for the continuity of their lives they lead in the storm –both real and perceptual. The Struggle of Living : Bangladesh-an agrarian over populated country with one third of the population below the poverty line, is one of the most cited examples of how people survive, strive and thrive for living. People here work from dawn to dusk and bathes with dust and sweat to earn meals for a day. Making a living is a constant struggle because of issues such as unemployment, illiteracy, zero safety net, backdated technology, poor infrastructure, gender discrimination, child labor, lack of health awareness, corruption, pollution, human trafficking, mutilation and forceful business of begging, lack of safety standards and primitive equipment etc. In this visual iteration, I have tried to show the difficulty faced by general people engaged in regular activities for making a living due to those issues. In some cases, it is indirectly perceived as the cause of which where else it is glaringly evident in some. How to purchase our work?

Prabarna Purnima | 35 Millimeters : Vesak is a holy day observed traditionally by Buddhists in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, India, Nepal and the South East Asian countries of Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, and Indonesia. Sometimes informally called "Buddha's Birthday", it actually encompasses the birth, enlightenment, and death of Gautama Buddha. This day is a thrice blessed day. Lord Buddha is considered the ninth avatar (incarnation) of Vishnu (Preserver in the Hindu Holy Trinity of Creator-Preserver-Destroyer). Gautam Buddha "lived and died in about the fifth century before the Christian era". Buddha means "enlightened one" - someone who is completely freefrom all faults and mental obstructions. Gautam Buddha was not a god and the philosophy of Buddhism does not entail any theistic world-view. The teachings of the Buddha are solely to liberate human beings from the misery and sufferings of life. How to purchase our work?
